Dr. Sarah Florence
Dr. Sarah Florence is a board-certified family medicine physician with a passion for caring for patients across the full spectrum of life — from cradle to grave. She attended medical school at Kansas City University and completed her Family Medicine residency through Ascension Via Christi Hospitals in Wichita, Kansas, a program known for its rigorous and broad-spectrum training. During residency, she pursued additional training in surgical obstetrics, graduating with OB fellowship-equivalent status within the field of Family Medicine.
Following residency, Dr. Florence practiced full-spectrum family medicine in small-town Newton, Iowa. There, she cared for men, women, and children in the outpatient setting while also providing obstetrical care. As one of only two physicians in her community delivering babies — and often practicing without backup — she provided essential women’s health services and walked alongside families through some of life’s most significant and vulnerable moments. After two years of near-constant call and ongoing difficulty recruiting additional obstetrical providers, the local hospital ultimately closed its OB service.
Dr. Florence then returned to her hometown of St. Louis, where she opened Sojourn Family Medicine in June 2025. Her practice operates under a Direct Primary Care model, allowing her to provide extended visits, personalized attention, and unhurried care without the constraints of insurance.
Through the field of medicine, Dr. Florence has cared for patients in every season of life. She has provided medical care for women and men of many backgrounds- both underserved and affluent. She has treated those with mental illness, supported broken families, celebrated growing ones, guided women through menopause, managed chronic illness, and walked with patients through complex end-of-life decisions.
Through these experiences, Dr. Florence has witnessed both the fragility and the profound dignity of human life — and remains deeply committed to caring for patients with compassion, respect, and a belief in the inherent value of every person.
